PROJECTS

Due to the tremendous interest in and support for the Art from the Heart exhibition and sale, the project has expanded to include some year-round activities. Through the Art from the Neighbourhood project (started in 2003), we have been able to offer several blocks of free weekend art classes to residents Spence/West End neighbourhood.

Funding through the Manitoba Arts Council has allowed us to develop an Artist-in-Residency pilot project in collaboration with the West Central Women’s Resource Centre. In April and May 2006, artist Ko’ona Cochrane will be offering a series of free Wednesday afternoon workshops on traditional aboriginal beading with women at the Centre.

This website, featuring artwork by a selection of participating artists, is another project Art from the Heart has taken on in 2006 in hopes of providing our membership with a wider exposure to the general public.

Based on feedback received during a consultation meeting with many low-income artists, we are planning an exciting series of free professional development workshops for artists on topics including grant-writing, navigating the gallery system, documenting your artwork, writing an artist statement and CV, etc. Implementation is pending on funding.

Art from the Heart in collaboration with the West Central Women's Resource Centre presents an 8-week series of workshops on Traditional Aboriginal Beading.

All women are invited to join us on Wednesdays, 1-3 pm starting April 5, 2006 at the West Central Women's Resource Centre in the basement on 583 Ellice (corner of Ellice and Sherbrook).

Attendance is on a drop-in basis. Materials and instruction are free of cost. Instructor: Ko'ona Cochrane
